This Fourth of July I'm feeling sentimental and also weirdly hopeful about the future. The past 18 months have been unsettling and chaotic. Our democratic institutions have been strained and due process trampled on.

But I'm seeing everyday citizens getting involved locally. Whether it be fighting for public library funding, asking important questions about AI data centers, or showing up to local school boards, more of us understand that our daily life is shaped by policy.

We've come along way in confronting our complex past and working toward becoming a more perfect union.

We, the people, aren't giving up. We won't allow history to be erased and we'll continue to work toward a healthier, greener, more equitable world and liberty and justice for all.

When I first started writing and researching "eco-anxiety," some of my family and friends that it was a bit "out there." Turns out, they get it now. More and more people are connecting the dots between the global weirding and extreme weather we're experiencing and our addiction to fossil fuels.

The climate crisis is here and it's time to scale clean energy quickly. We CAN do this. It's a political problem, not a technical one.

We CAN create a greener, healthier, more just future and be the awesome ancestors future generations deserve.
