My latest Musings list is out with my latest reads, TV shows, and sustainabilty tips to reconnect to nature and community.
What I'm Reading
Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke- A modern day "trad wife" influencer time travels to 1850.I finished it and have a lot to say! At first I was conflicted about the book, then I realized a sign of an excellent read is to keep thinking about it afterwards. Yesteryear meets that test, even if it feels like a horror movie.
I highly recommend my dear from from high school's memoir The Women They Wanted if you want to read Shannon Hendrickson's real life, compelling account of breaking from these rigid, stifling relationships.
The Beginning Comes After the End- I'm re-reading this book by Rebecca Solnit. The second time around I'm finding myself underlining passages about how the authoritarianism we're experiencing right now is the backlash to the enormous progress we've made expanding freedom and individual liberties. Solnit points to the historic record to show that that the pendulum will swing again. We will get through the chaos.
What I'm Watching:
The World Cup - have enjoyed watching the Norwegians do the "Ro" to the joyous Cape Verde celebrations.
Chisel & Razor- I absolutely loved the recent exhibit on the life of sculptor Edmonia Lewis and her brother the barber Samuel Lewis at TinWorks Art in Bozeman. Here's my younger kid offering a tour of this fascinating exhibit about history, identity, and what's loss to time. Check it out on your next visit.
My favorite #onegreenthings
Scouting out Creative Reuse centers around the country. Here's my tour of one in Norfolk, Virginia thanks to my friend Mel.
Calling my members of Congress at (202) 224-3121 to support voting rights, public lands, human rights, and strong climate action.
Committing to experiences, not things. Have enjoyed trips to Norfolk (saw the David Matthews Band & Cowboy Junkies) and a trip to Disney with dear friends (hadn't been to Orlando in 40 years!)
Enjoying connecting with our 5th Global Cohort of GenZ leaders through the OneGreenThing Climate & Democracy Leadership Intensive.
Spending time at soulful United in Light draft horse sanctuary in Livingston. I write about in Chapter 18 of my book One Green Thing.
